Information: David Monson is a farmer on the family farm in Cavalier County in northeastern North Dakota as well as a state representative for District 10, a retired insurance agent, and a retired school teacher/principal/superintendent, as well as a board member for NAIHC. He is on a number of other boards such as President of Family Mutual Insurance Co., President of Dovre Lutheran Church, board member of Northeast ND Heritage Foundation, and adviser to Osnabrock Community Living Center, ND ESPB (teacher licensure), and the ND Teacher Center Network. He has a BS in biology education (taught all sciences, psychology, and government) and a MEd degree in Educational Administration from the University of ND. He is a life member of the NRA, National Wildlife Federation, and the Knights of Pythias (Past Grand Sec.). Other memberships to organizations include the ND Farm Bureau, ND Pulse Growers, ND Canola Growers, ND Retired Teachers Assoc., Eagles, and others too numerous to mention. David has been married to his wife Mary for over 40 years and has three sons and four grandchildren. He has been a member of the North Dakota House of Representatives since 1992 and has served as Assistant Majority Leader and Speaker of the House. He currently serves as vice chair of the Education and Environment section of House Appropriations and is on several interim committees.

David’s farming involves raising wheat, barley, canola, soybeans, pinto beans, and someday industrial hemp. He holds a license in ND to grow industrial hemp, but due to Federal restrictions has not been able to grow industrial hemp without fear of Federal prosecution and hassles. Two of his sons who live close by help on the farm and raise vegetables for farmers markets. Cordell, their oldest son, is married to a school teacher and lives in Europe in Luxemborg. He is in the telecommunications industry and has one daughter. Cale is a mechanical engineer living in northeastern ND. He is married to a school teacher and has two daughters and a son. Jared is a body shop technician living in northeastern ND and has a truck farming business.
